Oregano essential oil

Origanum vulgare

Also called ‘wild marjoram’, Oregano is a hardy perennial herb that grows in a bush up to 90 centimeters in height with small, ovate, fragrant leaves, and pink-purple flowers. Native from southern Europe, Oregano is a very appreciated aromatic plant around the world for its fragrance and properties.

The pure essential oil is obtained by traditional distillation: slow extraction of the oil through steam.

This fine wildcrafted oil has a balance of important constituents, with a naturally high carvacrol level. Oregano is considered to have the strongest antibacterial and antimicrobial action of any essential oil. So, it can help fight off infections, treat foot or nail fungus, help in killing parasites and easing infections, alleviate sinus infections and colds.

Oregano oil is high in phenols, which are natural phytochemical compounds with beneficial antioxidant and tonic effects.

• Thymol : a natural fungicide with antiseptic properties. It helps boost your immune system, works as a shield against toxins, and even helps prevent tissue damage and encourages healing.

• Carvacrol : found to be effective against various bacterial infections.

• Terpenes : known for their powerful antibacterial properties.

• Rosmarinic acid : an antioxidant that prevents free radical damage and has shown promise in treating allergic asthma and preventing cancer and atherosclerosis. It also works as a natural antihistamine that helps reduce fluid buildup and swelling caused by allergy attacks.

Oregano oil has wide-reaching health benefits, but is most associated with respiratory and immune system health. It is known for helping prevent and treat urinary, respiratory, yeast and parasitic infections. It can also ease sore throat, alleviate toothache, relieve muscle and joint pain, rheumatoid arthritis (RA), sprains, and cramps. Also used in Hair Care to prevent or treat dandruff issues.
